How to make a full body OC in five steps
A full-body OC works when the silhouette is readable before any detail is added. Work from the big shapes down to the small ones.
- 1. Pick the silhouette: tall and narrow, broad and heavy, or small and round, so the character is recognisable as a solid shape.
- 2. Choose the outfit in layers: a base layer, an outer layer and one statement piece such as a coat, cape or armour plate.
- 3. Add one or two props or accessories that say what the character does: a bag, a weapon, a tool, a pair of goggles.
- 4. Fix the palette: one main colour, one secondary colour and one accent, and keep the accent for small details.
- 5. Choose a pose that shows personality, such as a wide stance for confidence or hunched shoulders for nerves, and describe it in the same sentence.
