Start with the role
Decide what the character does in the story or world. A role gives every later design choice a reason.
- A wanderer looking for home
- A student hiding a strange ability
- A healer with a dangerous secret
- A rival who wants respect more than victory
Add a contradiction
Memorable OCs often contain tension: brave but reckless, kind but secretive, powerful but afraid of losing control.
Write the visual anchors
Choose two or three details someone would remember after seeing the character once: a scar, color palette, weapon, hairstyle, or expression.
FAQ
What does OC mean?
OC means original character, a character created by you rather than copied from an existing franchise.
How do I make my OC less generic?
Give the character a specific motivation, a meaningful flaw, and visual details that connect to their story.
